KNOW WHAT CAN BONK YOU.
Bonkstorm uses four hazards, but they are not cosmetic versions of the same obstacle. Three fall into marked impact zones. One crosses the rooftop horizontally. Their different shapes, approach directions, and warning styles are designed to test different parts of the one-button movement system.
Read the warning before watching the object. The warning tells you where the collision problem will be; the object mainly tells you how little time remains.
Compact, readable, and dangerous when it persuades you to make an unnecessary correction.
Wider than a crate and more likely to punish a landing that drifts back into the marked zone.
The broadest falling threat. It turns indecision into a collision by consuming a large part of the available runway.
A moving horizontal line that must be crossed, not merely escaped. Its side arrow matters more than a landing marker.
CRATES: THE DISCIPLINE TEST
A crate has the smallest footprint among the falling objects. That makes its warning easier to leave, but it also creates a common mistake: seeing the marker, tapping immediately, and reversing into the impact zone even though the runner's original path was already safe. Against a crate, compare your current direction with both edges of the marker. If your natural movement clears it, preserve the tap for the next threat.
When a crate overlaps another warning, treat it as the smaller boundary in a combined shape. Avoiding the crate alone is not useful if its escape sends you underneath the wider object arriving beside it.
ANVILS: THE LANDING TEST
An anvil occupies more horizontal space and makes a late reversal harder to recover from. The key question is not whether your runner can leave the center of its marker. Ask whether the arc of the jump—and especially the landing point—will remain outside the full width of the impact area.
A strong response starts earlier than a crate response and ends with open ground in the new direction. If you must spend the single airborne correction, use it because new information appeared, not simply because the anvil looks close.
PIANOS: THE COMMITMENT TEST
Pianos are deliberately broad. Their warning often divides the rooftop into a clearly better side and a clearly worse side. Hesitating between those choices can leave the runner inside the marked zone with too little runway to build a safe landing.
Commit toward the side with more unmarked space, even if that side is not the center. During Final Frenzy, returning to the middle is less important than completing one controlled landing that does not intersect the next warning.
BARRELS: THE TIMING TEST
A barrel enters from the side indicated by the warning arrow and rolls along the roof. Unlike a falling object, it keeps changing position. Running away can delay the meeting but may trap you at the opposite edge. A jump can cross the barrel, yet the same input reverses your horizontal direction, so the space behind the runner becomes the destination.
Watch the barrel's closing speed and jump late enough to pass over it rather than landing in front of it. Before takeoff, check that the reversed route is not already covered by a falling marker.
WHAT COUNTS AS A COLLISION
The runner uses a compact circular collision area while hazards use their visible rectangular footprint. A run ends when those areas overlap. The collision check follows the moving game objects rather than the warning artwork, so touching a warning marker is safe; remaining there when its object arrives is not.
OVERLAPS AND COMBINATIONS
As difficulty rises, a spawn can be followed by a second or third threat. Read the combined unsafe space before choosing an input. Two separate warnings may create one corridor, remove the center, or make a barrel jump unsafe on one side. The visually largest object is not always the most urgent part of the combination.
NEAR MISSES
The game counts a near miss when a hazard passes close to the runner without producing a collision. It is feedback, not a bonus or global score. A near miss can show that your timing was efficient, but intentionally farming them makes the next landing less predictable. Survive first; use the count afterward to understand how close the route became.
